REPORTS TO: Specialty Services Supervisor
The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical services to Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment & Specialties. Services consist of providing pharmaceutical prescription care to all hospitalized patients, as well as outpatients and any refill requests. The Pharmacy Technician provides drug information as needed to hospital staff, clients, referring veterinarians and pharmacists. The Pharmacy Technician enforces compliance with all state and federal drug laws. Responsibilities include the daily activities necessary to provide accurate and efficient pharmaceutical services to patients and clients within the hospital. This includes filling medication orders for all inpatients, outpatients, and any refill requests, restocking inventory in the pharmacy and within central supply, and communicating with doctors, interns, students and clients regarding medication orders or questions.
POSITION RESPONSIBITIES
Fill and dispense prescription and food orders for inpatients, outpatients, and refill requests.
Assist with online pharmacy orders.
Ensure proper dispensing, labeling, and record keeping (following all hospital SOP’s).
Provide product information to staff and clients.
Accurately invoice clients for medications and supplies.
Comply with all federal and state drug laws.
Assist with updating, maintaining, and implementing pharmacy related policies, workflows, and procedures including SOP’s related to controlled/scheduled medication.
Restock pharmacy shelves when orders arrive.
Take note of stock levels for reorder needs.
Restock central supply medications and supply cabinets when necessary.
Fill stock orders for hospital services, as necessary.
Maintain inventory and order all specialty prescription diets.
Ascertain appropriateness of compounded formulations (i.e., stability, storage, expiration).
Adhere to all compounding regulations.
Ensure pharmacy is kept clean and organized.
Maintain organized pharmacy records.

Must complete annual pharmacy related CE.
**Position responsibilites may change on a temporary or regular basis according to the needs of the service or business without it being specifically included in the job description.
SCHEDULE
TBD, includes a weekend shift.
Schedule includes rotating holiday coverage.
Additional flexibility may be necessary for covering vacation and/or sick time.
This position is considered essential and is therefore required to work as scheduled during inclement weather (i.e., during snowstorms).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 1 year experience as a pharmacy technician and/or 3 years as a veterinary technician
2 years’ experience working in an emergency and/or specialty hospital preferred

Physical Effort: Work requires lifting to 30lbs, mopping of floors, vacuuming, and general cleaning of the pharmacy area. Standing for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal waste.
