Position Title
Accounting Clerk
Job Summary
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for collecting account payments for veterinary services associated with the VMTH, maintain accurate records on payments made and account statements, and all other billing-related duties. The Accounting Clerk reports to the Budget Office Manager in the VMTH.
Essential Job Duties
Demonstrates professional and courteous interactions with faculty, staff, students, clients, and other constituents, and reinforces the objective to achieve the highest level of client service and satisfaction
Process credit or debit card transactions and validate checks
Collect and receipt hospital income; receive, safeguard and account for funds receiveD
Prepare and execute routine billing operations
Responsible for maintenance of internal departmental accounting systems
Prepare and review invoices and statements to ensure that all the information is accurate
Prepare daily cash reports for submission to the Budget Office Manager
Post data to accounts using computerized systems
Review medical records for proper fee assessment
Provide telephone and/or direct customer assistance
Maintain inventory for science diet food sales
Prepare CareCredit applications for various clients and maintain credit files
Mail collection letters to clients and assist with follow-up on outstanding accounts
Update database with codes and/or changes in prices
Interact with IT personnel to maintain and sustain operating computer systems
Prepare outgoing correspondence and maintenance of routine business fileS
Maintain excel file for gasoline purchases for vehicles
Maintain steady workflow in daily operations with the Budget Office Manager
Provide leadership in the absence of the Budget Office Manager
Provide leadership and orientation about the VMTH business procedures to students
Provide high level of customer relations and customer service
Serve as supervisor of the work-study students
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor’s or Associate degree in accounting related field (Three to five years of experience can be substituted for degree)

Skills and Attributes
Knowledge of principles and practices of financial accounting preferably in an academic environment
Experience in accounts receivable, billing, and collections
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of records and any hospital related matters
Experience with basic computer skills (Microsoft, Excel spreadsheets and practice management software).
