The Position:
The Human Resources Manager is a hands-on leadership role focused on the design, development and execution of a best-in-class employee experience for all team members at U-GRO. This position is responsible for discovering and implementing HR practices which support a values-based culture that drives results and supports the acquisition, development, and retention of U-GRO talent. The HR Manager leads/supervises a team of HR professionals responsible for areas including talent acquisition, training and development, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, all while ensuring fair and equitable employment practices and developing procedural and people skills throughout the organization.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Department Leadership:
- Supervise direct reports on HR team, providing coaching and leadership; Manage people operations and activities including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, compliance, and HRIS data integrity.
- Develop and drive strategic department initiatives, to promote/achieve a culture of learning and development, which supports the acquisition and retention of U-GRO talent.
- Evaluate and apply data to regularly inform decisions; lead others to drive ongoing program improvements based on user feedback and performance measurements and execute department-specific action plans to improve employee experience as needed.
- Develop and maintain annual budget for department; manage monthly reporting and variance analysis; administer department contracts.
- Continuously ensure efficiency in the use/workflow and data integrity of HR Information Systems (HRIS).
- Provide leadership with analysis of key reports including talent acquisition, retention (turnover), training initiatives, utilization of benefits, and other reporting as deemed necessary.
- Assess organizational training and development needs; evaluate current training programs and Learning Management System (LMS) to determine best course of action in moving the training program forward.
- Develop and implement an organization-wide training and development strategy, including appropriate adoption and integration of e-learning solutions.
- Lead and participate in the design, development, and delivery of in-house training programs; partner with subject matter experts to develop course content.
- Provide guidance and coaching to internal customers by interpreting programs and policies and delivering recommendations aligned with culture and business objectives.
- Oversee Performance Check-In process organization-wide, including coaching of managers on process and communication.
- Provide performance management training and guidance, particularly in cases of poor performance and regarding employment policies.
- Develop and implement standardized processes for conducting investigations and tracking and documenting employee relations claims and cases; Use sound judgement, discretion and creative problem-solving approach to conduct investigations and ensure the timely resolution of complex employee relations issues
- Review and evaluate disciplinary actions to include written warnings, suspensions and dismissals to ensure consistent application of company policies
- Oversee unemployment claims and workers' compensation programs (at state and regional levels).
- Lead the employee benefits strategy, including the annual renewal and open enrollment process.
- Direct activities related to the administration and maintenance of employee benefit programs. Develop, recommend, implement and control programs in a manner that ensures legal compliance, cost-effectiveness, market competitiveness, and internal equity.
- Oversee the compensation function, ensuring pay practices comply with federal and state laws as well as company compensation philosophy, ensuring internal equity and competitive posture; includes review of job descriptions, assessing FLSA classifications, participating in salary surveys and interpreting data, directing the performance review and salary increase process, and establishing guidelines.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations, including reporting and record keeping; Conduct internal audits of policies/procedures to ensure relevance, legal compliance and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Seven (7) years of diverse experience in the field of Human Resources, including at least:
- Three (3) years' focus on training and development
- Two (2) years' experience with employee benefits
- Two (2) years' experience with employee relations
- At least one (1) year of prior experience managing two (2) or more direct reports.
- Excellent interpersonal and writing skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management, providing a high level of customer service; Must be comfortable presenting ideas to senior level stakeholders, receptive of feedback and quick to apply changes.
- Passionate about people and talent development to attract and retain top talent.
- Prior experience implementing and/or administering Learning Management System (LMS).
- Track record designing and executing successful training programs utilizing both traditional and new training methods (coaching, on-the-job and classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.).
- Demonstrable knowledge of employment laws and related practices e.g. FMLA, worker's compensation.
- Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines; Proactive, creative, and independent thinker with high energy/positive attitude.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and handle confidential information with extreme discretion.
- Strong technical aptitude with high degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now system
- Prior experience utilizing SAP Litmos Learning Management System
- Prior experience with managing self-insured health insurance programs
