U-Haul Technical Center – Tempe, AZ
The U-Haul Engineering Department is seeking highly driven Mechanical Designers to participate in the development of the next generation of U-Haul Products. The Engineering and Design department at the U-Haul Technical Center is responsible for aiding development of new products, creating and maintaining engineering drawings, servicing existing designs, engaging with internal customers and vendors to solve problems, and to serve as a source of product and technical knowledge for the entire Tech Center.
Position Description
Using sound mechanical design principles and CAD techniques, develop production design packages which fulfill established design requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, independent design and creation of piece parts, weldments, assemblies, drawings, supporting documentation, material selection, and tolerance determination.
Job Responsibilities
- Apply sound Mechanical Design principles to design parts and assemblies which meet requirements of assigned projects.
- Create CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, instructions, and bill of materials, to support manufacturing, testing and assembly.
- Support purchasing and material planning selection as required.
- Support Research and Development projects as required.
- Support Manufacturing through the creation of Detail Drawings and Instructions
- Read, Interpret, and Utilize Industry standards, specifications, and methods.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates in Mechanical Design & Drafting
- Experience interpreting and creating Detail Drawings of Parts, Assemblies, and Instructions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor
- Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD
- Familiarity with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) principles
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 Drafting Standards and Practices
- Self-Starter
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree, Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Autodesk Certified Professional: Inventor for Mechanical Design
- Experience with Autodesk Vault
- Familiarity with truck and trailering equipment
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, fasteners, and specifications
