The U. S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern District of Texas make up one of the largest and busiest districts among the country's 94 federal judicial districts. The district and bankruptcy courts, combined with the appellate courts and the Supreme Court, make up the judicial branch of the federal government. The Southern District of Texas consists of the following seven divisional offices: Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston, Laredo, McAllen, and Victoria.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas is currently seeking applicants for a Financial Services Technician. This position is located in the Clerk's Office in downtown Houston and reports directly to the Financial Services Supervisor. Financial Services Technicians perform and coordinate administrative, technical and professional work related to financial, procurement, and budgetary activities of the court, including ensuring compliance with the appropriate guidelines, shared services, policies, and internal controls.

Total Compensation

The starting salary range for this position is $50,066 up to $62,611 annually for exceptionally qualified individuals (starting grade is CL 24). With tenure and successful performance, salary for this position can go as high $89,912.

Representative Duties

  • Maintain and analyze accounting records consisting of a cash receipts journal, registry fund, deposit fund, and subsidiary ledgers for allotments and other fiscal records.
  • Receive and review travel, interpreter, general invoices, and case vouchers, for accuracy and adherence to Judicial regulations for appropriateness of payment while preparing and processing forms, documents and reports according to internally established standards and procedures;
  • Procure supplies, equipment, services, and furnishings from government and non-government sources through the Citibank Purchase Card Program, in addition to new contracts, competitive bids, or existing government contracts. Plan and coordinate time and delivery of purchases. Compare invoices against purchase orders for type, quantity, and condition.
  • Assist with space construction projects: review blueprints and suggest alternate layouts for maximum use of space; research potential vendors; order supplies and furniture for new space projects.
  • Review financial documents for proper coding, input procurement/financial data, correct errors, conduct data searches for records, and retrieve reports from financial applications.
  • Provide superior customer service while interacting with Judges, Court staff, other judicial agencies, attorneys, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Preferred Qualification:


  • 1-2 years specialized experience requiring the application of accounting/ financial clerical procedures and automated accounting systems; the routine use of computer keyboard skills and use of specialized terminology, and demonstrated ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws.
Qualifications:
  • College degree required. Associates or bachelor's degree in Business (Accounting/Finance/Economics) preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who have a four-year college degree in related fields such as accounting and management information systems.
  • Applicants should be able to handle a large volume of work and possess the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage their own workload. Superior professional customer service, communication and organizational skills are also required.
  • The successful candidate must be able to make constructive suggestions for improvements in work processes to better achieve the goals and objectives of the agency.
  • Experience and proficiency with PCs and Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel are required.

Employees of the United States Courts are not included in the government's Civil Service classification. They are, however, entitled to the same benefits as other federal government employees. Employees who work for the Court are considered "at will" and work at the pleasure of the Court.
