PROGRAM MANAGER II - GLOBAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

Position Summary:

Responsible for managing the research and partnership initiatives of the Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health (MHIGH) under the direction of the MHIGH Associate Director for Research and Partnerships and the MHIGH Administrative Director, and according to an established program plan. May participate in the development of program objectives and is responsible for achieving objectives within defined parameters set by University and/or MHIGH policies and procedures or technical principles. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to manage multiple competing priorities; understand, define and/or implement new policies and procedures; and possess strong collaboration skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and curate expanding global health research initiatives through the Institute and throughout the Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM):

• Build, advertise, refine, implement research and partnership initiatives
• Engage stakeholders to garner support for research initiatives
• Liaise with UAB Global Affairs and UAB International Medical Education teams to understand UAB visitor policies and provide related guidance to HSOM faculty and partners
• Ensure that any changes in research initiatives are communicated appropriately so that websites and other materials can be updated

Coordinate research-related activities:

• Facilitate yearly MHIGH Pilot Grant Request for Application Process (RFA) and track awardee progress
• Subscribe to listservs for federal (domestic and international) as well as foundational funding notification, to identify appropriate opportunities for faculty and global health collaborators
• Assist with MHIGH grant and IRB protocol applications, including those with international components, and serve as an informational resource and guide to HSOM faculty and partners in this area
• Manage ongoing monthly Research in Progress meeting series
• Curate yearly global health research forum
• Facilitate annual MHIGH satisfaction survey
• Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $51,270 - $73,770

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Previous administrative, project management, or grant management experience
• Global health training or experience
• Detail orientation, effective problem solving skills
• Demonstrated expertise in communications, team work, and relationship building
