This position will support ongoing efforts in an established laboratory dedicated to advancing state-of-the-art, in vivo cellular-molecular imaging to aid the diagnoses and treatment of diseases. The lab uses a wide range of chemical, biological and algorithmic methods in advancing lab goals.
Under the PI's general supervision, incumbent will serve as Lab Manager, responsible for assisting with the management of the chemistry, biology and tissue culture labs, as well as the animal research projects. Moreover, candidate should be able to independently perform analytical and cell-based assays. Representative tasks may include: chemical reactions, agent preparation, cell culture, cell assays, flow cytometry, and microscopy. Cellular-molecular imaging agents developed in lab are evaluated using preclinical imaging methods, include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron-emission tomography (PET) and fluorescence imaging methods in model systems; these studies are performed at https://stemcellprogram.ucsd.edu/core/mics.
The incumbent is expected to make contributions to research design, data collection, and analysis. Other projects include assistance with write-ups for manuscripts and proposals.
Overall, incumbent will be responsible for ordering all lab supplies and coordinating equipment maintenance. Training and overseeing work of lab personnel including students and staff may be required. The incumbent will serve as an EH&S contact and lab safety coordinator and perform other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSTheoretical knowledge in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, or a related scientific discipline, and/or relevant lab experience.
Demonstrated experience handling and working with small animals in biomedical research.
Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and biohazard techniques.
Demonstrated strong organization skills and attention to detail in order to perform experiments as well as accurately record and interpret complex data.
Demonstrated successful, positive interpersonal and oral and written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situations. Skill to interact effectively with faculty, academicians, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture, and foreign nationals.Skills to present information clearly and concisely.
Experience with the operation of a personal computer and software programs, such as MS Word andExcel. Proficiency in Image-J and Photoshop.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in thework environment, as well as effectively and accurately document research procedures. Ability to read,comprehend and discuss research materials. Experience preparing abstracts, and publications.
Demonstrated experience ordering and maintaining lab equipment and supplies.
Proficient at scientific writing and editing.
Demonstrated experience performing light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy techniques.
Demonstrated experience in histological sectioning of paraffin embedded and frozen tissues with microtome and cryotome equipment.
Demonstrated experience in chemical synthesis and/or imaging agent formulation.

Willing and able to work with biohazardous materials.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $62,324 - $100,220 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.85 - $48.00
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
