What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospital Lab Technician III - Santa Monica position at UCLA Health Careers?
Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Services, Department of Medicine, Research HLT III staff are well able to perform those duties found in the Research HLT II job description. Additional responsibilities include: Research HLT II training, mentoring, and general oversight; support in launching new research pharmacy sites; training Nurses in hazardous drug handling and waste of both Standard of Care and Investigational Products; attendance of in-services and site initiation visits; coverage for Research HLT II absence or illness; interface with nurses, nurse-practitioners, physicians, pharmacists, and clinic research coordinators as required for performance of job duties including IP inventory and accountability, daily research order audits, regulatory maintenance, IP destruction documentation, review of research protocol amendments as it applies to IP preparation, and ongoing evaluation of services to prevent waste and ensure safety and quality. Active contributor to the design and implementation of expanded roles for the DOM Pharmacy Department.
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm
Preferred:
Pharmacy Technician License
Pharmacy Technician Certification
Required:
Research pharmacy experience
Knowledge
of medical terminology and pharmaceutical abbreviations
Knowledge of metric and apothecary units.
Knowledge
of pharmaceutical generic and trade names and dosage forms
Accurately perform
mathematical calculations
Competency in Care Connect, Microsoft Office, LYNX,
EPIC/BEACON
Interpret prescriptions, convert units,
measure and prepare prescriptions, IV solutions, and IV medication
Proficient in aseptic technique, handling, preparation,
and disposal of hazardous drugs
Conduct critical evaluation of procedures to
ensure quality and effect positive change
Train, mentor, and serve as resource for other
staff
Able to conduct site visits to provide
training and conduct quality control assessments
Able to maintain equanimity and composure
in stressful situations
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently
Reliable, prompt, efficient
Able to
demonstrate professional, ethical, constructive, positive conduct
