POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Educator Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organizing, development, and implementation of our educational development and activities program for our clinical staff. This key role will help create a framework of educational programs that promote the growth and development of licensed and unlicensed staff. This individual functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous staffing, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to the BCT’s in the Nursing department. This position functions as a Trainer of nonviolent crisis intervention, CPR, AED, and first aid to employees of the Hospital and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Responsibilities include: orientation, interviewing, providing 90 day performance evaluations, and direct involvement in hiring and disciplinary action decisions. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related health and human services field preferred. Must possess knowledge of developmental and life stage of and psychiatric problems peculiar to younger childhood (ages 3-7), middle childhood (ages 8-12), and adolescent (ages 13 to 18) populations. Knowledge of Belmont Pines Hospital policies and procedures. Knowledge of Joint Commission, OhioMHAS, and other regulatory body standards and expectations.

 

Experience: Previous experience in a mental healthcare facility/psychiatric hospital settings is required.

 

Licensure:  Must maintain a valid driver's license in the applicable state.

 

Additional Requirements: CPR Certification and successful completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint immediately following employment and prior to performing patient care. Ability to work with child and adolescent populations as demonstrated through educational accomplishment or work experience. A working knowledge of JCAHO, ODMH, and patient rights standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities relating to direct patient care. Individual must be a certified instructor of nonviolent crisis intervention, first aid, CPR and AED. May be required to flexible hours.

 

Skills/Traits: Ability to communicate information in a positive manner with all levels of people, and age groups. Must be able to maintain professionalism in dealing with referral sources within the community, patients, families, physicians, and staff members. Able to maintain confidentially of information contained in the medical record of assigned patients. Able to act in a mature manner in situations that calls for diplomacy and tact. Should possess a command of the English language with good verbal and written skills. Must be organized and possess good administrative skills.

 

Competence: The individual must demonstrate competence by:

    1. Ability to obtain information about, and interpret information in terms of mental health disorders.
    2. Knowledge of the natural history of mental health disorders.
    3. Understanding of the biological and sociocultural dimensions influencing mental health.
    4. An understanding of the range of treatment needed by dependent patients.
    5. Knowledge of available evidenced based treatment interventions, resources, and their appropriate utilization
    6. Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development
    7. Ability to prioritize, plan, direct, and manage the day-to-day activities.
    8. A working knowledge and understanding of JCAHO and ODMH standards relating to direct patient care and employee health issues.
    9. Ability to maintain professionalism and provide leadership in dealing with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, other department staff members.
    10. A working knowledge of hospital, corporate, and personnel policies and procedures.
    11. Ability to maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
    12. Supports facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
    13. Ability to treat employees with dignity; communicate needed changes in a positive manner.
