Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Dietary Director, the Food Services Lead is responsible for overseeing and/or preparation of all meals and snacks for the residents and facility staff according to the approved cycle menu and productions sheets. The Food Service Lead shall maintain a clean and orderly kitchen and its associated spaces with complete compliance to JCAHO and local health department standards and regulations.

 

The Food Service Lead shall be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities of the Dietary Department which includes:

·         Provide leadership, direction, and training to food service personnel; assign job duties and oversee the completion of assigned tasks.

·         Service Excellence providing on-site, immediate resolution of customer service needs.

·         Ensure food safety by routinely checking for opened products, proper labeling, discarding leftovers and expired items.

·         Providing nutritional and attractive meals for residents and facility employees.

·         Maintaining an organized and sanitary environment.

·         Monitoring supply inventories and ensuring proper storage of all food and supplies.

·         Maintains compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)

·         Complying with all federal and state laws, rules and regulations of licensing agencies, and JCAHO standards for the quality of patient care.

·         Ensure Daily Production, Temperature Logs, and Checklists are completed daily.

·         Assist the Dietary Manager as assigned with: staff scheduling, menu creation, and special diet protocols.

·         Be capable of and prepared to function as interim Dietary Manager with little to no notice.

Qualifications

Education:    

High school education or equivalent preferred, or combination of experience, skills and education.

Experience:

Must possess knowledge of basic food science, basic math, the ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions, ability to estimate food requirements and the ability to disassemble, assemble, operate and clean food service equipment; ability to interact with all people. An individual must be able to perform each Essential Function of the job with exceptional tact and skill. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the essential functions.

Must have at least four (4) years of food service experience in a supervisory role with a basic knowledge of restricted and modified diets.

Certified Food Protection Manager, or able to be certified within 90 days of accepting the position.

Experience utilizing industrial kitchen equipment and utensils

 

Additional Requirements:

Must be capable of using various software products, including MS Office.

Must be adept at solution driven, professional communication with coworkers and supervisors.

Must be receptive to feedback; always seeking opportunities to improve performance.

Must participate in all tasks associated with operating and maintaining the physical dietary department to continually meet established standards.

Knowledge of basic therapeutic diets.

Knowledge of basic food service sanitation.

Knowledge of food portion and waste control.

Knowledge of industrial kitchen operations and procedures.

Knowledge of industrial equipment and utensils, and skill in utilizing such.

Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.

Skill in telephone etiquette.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to cook in large quantities.

Ability to perform office procedures in absence of the Dietary Director.

Ability to read menus and recipes.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.

Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.

Ability to work as a team player.

Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.

Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.

Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (youth, adolescent, and adult).

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS

Ability to manipulate various kitchen equipment and utensils.

Ability to stand and walk about the kitchen and facility frequently.

Ability to stand up to 8 hours at a time.

Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and to push and pull up to 40 pounds.

Ability to work in temperatures ranging from -0°F. to 100°F. and higher.

Ability to stoop, kneel and bend daily.

Ability to reach, twist and turn above and below the waist.

Ability to use both hands to accomplish assigned duties.

Prepared to handle hazardous chemicals as needed.

Ability to see, taste, smell and hear to assess products served and produce a safe work environment.
