Responsibilities
Assist in care of hospital patients under the direction of nursing and the medical staff. Position is responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing care, and for promoting teamwork among co-workers.
- Follow infection control policies and universal precautions.
- Clean ED rooms between patients in a timely fashion.
- Assist with direct patient care.
- Accurately obtain and document vital signs.
- Transport patient to ancillary department or inpatient units in a timely fashion.
- Assist in application of splints.
- Assist alongside with the physician in suturing and setup.
- Demonstrate ability to report the observation of patient.
- Initiates patient connection to the Cardiac Monitor, including BP and Pulse Oximetry
- Able to place telemetry unit on patient per protocol.
- Accurately obtains EKG on patient.
- Able to insert and secure peripheral IV Catheter for IV therapy;Note: Only an RN may administer IV therapy including fluids and medications.
- Inform appropriate nursing personnel of abnormalities or changes in the patient.
- Demonstrates proper set-up for procedure trays and care thereof after use.
- Demonstrate knowledge of DI, Cerner and SMS.
- Complete QPI (quick patient identification) in a timely manner. Accurately registers patients.
- Stocks Rooms and Supplies as needed, keeps Charge Nurse informed when supplies need to be reordered.
- Rounds on ER Waiting Room hourly to ensure that all patients are acknowledged when the ED has high volume.
- Keeps EMResource data accurate and up to date at all times.
- Maintains ED logs as needed.
- Other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Current LPN licensure in the state of Oklahoma required.
- Proof of IV therapy course through LPN education program or IV therapy venipuncture activity training course required within 6 months.
- Current BLS required.
- Minimum of 1 year (within the past 3 years) providing patient care required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment assessment.
- Basic computer skills required.
- De-Escalation/TEAM training completed within 6 months of hire and maintained annually.
