Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs the primary function of coding entry level inpatient and higher level outpatient records, to include DRG assignment and validation, and CPT assignment. Utilizes the 3M Encoder to code and classify accurately all medical records according to ICD-10. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. Serves as a mentor/resource for entry level coders.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. One to three years coding experience required.
2. Education or training in medical coding (ICD-10 / ICD-10 PCS, CPT and APC), medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology required.
3. Computer skills.
4. Ability to read medical reports, interpret lab values as pertinent to coding diagnoses, abstract pertinent information from records and to provide a meaningful information by telephone or letter replying to inquiries.
5. Successfully completed coding classes in accredited school.
6. Ability to work remotely. Must be able to provide high speed internet at place of residence at the expense of the employee, with a work area that is in adherence to privacy and security policies and procedures.
7. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
1. High School or GED required
2. Certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, NCCT, AAPC Certifications or Certificate required.
3. Degree (Medical Records or Healthcare related field) or Coding Education Certificate from an accredited vocational school/college required.
