What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Clerk - AW position at UHS?
The Unit Clerk performs assigned clerical duties on behalf of the Department, and functions as the focal communication source for the department.
- Answers the phone, forwarding calls to appropriate personnel/departments in a professional, timely manner.
- Responds to all requests for information in a timely manner.
- Accepts admissions from other organizations or facilities.
- Preregisters patients for scheduled intake, obtaining authorization and checking insurance eligibility.
- Interviews patients or their representatives, where admission is unscheduled, for obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information.
- Provides Information to the patient/representative about billing, complaint process, patient rights, HIPAA and visiting hours. Distributes facility specific literature.
- Ensures patient personal items are secured by family member on onsite.
- Refers patients to the business office when financial arrangements need to be made.
- Completes pre-certs that are due within 24 hours from admission tiem.
- Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

Qualifications
- Highschool graduate/GED
- Associate's degree or higher preferred
- Previous experience preferred
- Proficient in software applications
- Ability to write detailed correspondence
- Ability to read and comprehend moderate to complex instructions and correspondence
