Position Summary
This position assists with development and implementation of academic, career, and student affairs programming involving outreach to internal and external constituencies. In addition to advising responsibilities, this Academic advisor will often be the first point of contact for visitors to the Office of Student Affairs. This academic advisor will process, track and report on student advising activities including advising notes, student petitions, transfer course evaluation, grade audit, probation, dismissal, graduation clearance and monitor and report on success of assigned students.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach ISA 100 courses to provide transition strategies from high school to university for first time students. Plan and prepare lesson plans, instructional activities and course outlines in adherence to university policies and procedures.
  • Develop and conduct workshops on topics related to student academic success.
  • Develop student educational activities that engage parents.
  • Student Advisement
  • Counsel and advise students on academic, career and personal issues and develop individual academic and career goals. Identify educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications. Assist students with course selection, study abroad, university requirements, financial aid and scholarship choices.
  • Process, track and report on student advising activities including advising notes, student petitions, transfer course evaluation, grade audit, probation, dismissal, graduation clearance and monitor and report on success of assigned students.
  • Refer students to counseling and services provided by other campus support units.
  • Assess students’ interests, skills and goals related to career development; provide specialized academic advising, resume review and personal counseling to students from diverse backgrounds and cultural differences to guide the student to graduation.
  • Assess the student's stage of development (academic, career, and personal) and determine suitable developmental tasks; assist student in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals. Communicate with faculty and departmental administrators on behalf of students; provide resource referral for external issues that may affect matriculation.
  • Support A&A Student Organizations by encouraging student participation, foster involvement in organizations and attend events related to the academic, community, career and professional development of business students.
  • Student Outreach and Recruitment
  • Develop, promote and implement student initiatives and programs, including outreach to internal and external constituencies of alumni, high schools and community agencies, with the goal of recruitment and retention of targeted population students.
  • Collaborate with academic partners, parents, alumni and other constituents in developing activities that strengthen student education, using a variety of student development theories and practices
  • Plan and implement orientation initiatives
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
