Responsible for performing a full range of procedures including the cytodiagnosis of benign and malignant conditions in all body sites. Assist in the development and training of medical students, residents and fellows.
Major Responsibilities:
- Examines and evaluates the cell sample for the presence or absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, presence of microorganisms, inflammatory reactions, endocrinopathies, benign changes, premalignant changes, neoplasia and cellular responses to therapeutic agents.
- Evaluates dysplastic changes and determines grade or severity of process and cell type.
- Assesses malignant cell morphology on the basis of diagnostic criteria. Determines cell or tissue type, differentiation of the neoplasms and when possible the primary site of the neoplasm.
- Determines whether cellular changes meet guidelines to necessitate referral to a cytopathologist.
- Relates cytomorphologic changes to clinical data.

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor's degrees and completion of 12-month Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Cytotechnology program.
- Meets the Cytotechnologist qualifications of the CLIA 1988 law governing all laboratories.
Preferred:
- ASCP Certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Three years of recent experience.
Preferred:
- Recent experience with on-site adequacy evaluation of specimens.
