Registered Nurse, 6 East, Med/Surg, Per Diem

Responsible for the planning, delivery and management of direct patient care utilizing the nursing process and adhering to the standards of nursing practice.

Major Responsibilities:

• Utilizes the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of patient’s care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
• Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
• Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
• Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluate nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
• Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
• Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
• Develops, implements/coordinates and documents Education Plan for patient/family/ significant other.
• Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers.
• Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies and operates equipment according to policy and procedure. Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
• Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
• Assumes responsibility for professional growth. Assists in education and development of staff.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

• Current Massachusetts licensure and registration.
• Completion of an accredited school of nursing program.
• BLS is a requirement for every RN unless advance cardiac life support (ACLS) certification is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

• Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.

Schedule Notes:

• All Per Diem Nurses must work four (4) shifts of eight (8) or more hours per four (4) week work schedule. Two (2) of the four (4) scheduled shifts must be weekend shifts unless the work area is typically closed on weekends.
• All Per diem Nurses who work in areas that remain open on Holidays are required to be available to work one (1) major winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s) and one (1) major summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day). Per Diems will be paid time and one half for working one (1) major winter holiday and one (1) major summer holiday.
