Position Summary:

 This position oversees the day-to-day operations and scheduling of the CT Scan department.  Responsible for ensuring efficient delivery of quality diagnostic imaging procedures to all patients. Ensures training and orientation on all imaging equipment. Maintains operations according to departmental policies, procedures, state and federal regulations and TJC.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provides day-to-day supervision and scheduling of CT Scan staff to ensure efficient delivery of diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Submits and corrects payroll records in a timely manner.
  • Oversees that all staff credentials are up to date. Maintains documentation for continuing education credits, CPR and other training, registration, and licensure.
  • Follows all Quality Control policies and procedures for compliance with departmental, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Updates and posts policies, procedures, and protocol in a timely manner.
  • Schedules and completes service and maintenance inspections on equipment according to department, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Identifies and evaluates equipment needs.
  • Identifies and corrects equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations, hospital policy, and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Greets patients politely and efficiently.
  • Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
  • Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
  • Seeks out Interpreter Services if needed.
  • Administers contrast media orally or intravenously under the supervision of a radiologist or covering MD.
  • Follows sterile techniques according to hospital policy.
  • Sets up examination area, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position, and following protocols specified by Radiologist or another supervisor.
  • Enters data, such as type of scan requested, and other technical data into computer, using knowledge of radiologic technology and computed tomography.
  • Evaluates images and computer-generated information for technical quality.
  • Records, processes and maintains patient data, documents and treatment records in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Collaborates with other medical team and administrative staff members, such as physicians and nurses, to conduct special procedures or complete administrative duties.
  • Performs all duties with strict adherence to and compliance with government regulations, hospital policy and procedure, and safety guidelines.

Standard Supervisor Level Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.  Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
  • Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
  • Meets established productivity standards.
  • Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring that all work outcomes satisfy the UMass Memorial Health System True North.

  • Practices cost containment and fiscal responsibility through the efficient use of supplies, equipment, time, etc.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
  • Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited radiological technology program
  • Current registration by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • Current CT Scan certification
  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Radiation Control Program
  • Current CPR certification

 

Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree

 Experience/Skill: 

Required:
  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in CT Scan
  • Minimum one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience in a diagnostics area.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate others
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English with patients to explain procedures and ensure safety and comfort during scans
  • Ability to follow procedures and policies
  • Ability to use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff
  • Ability to process, review and evaluate images or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes
  • Ability to record, process and maintain thorough and accurate patient data, medical histories, treatment records, and prepare reports
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical staff, personnel, students, and patients
  • Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English


 Preferred:
Minimum five (5) years of lead or supervisory experience in radiology
