What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sergeant position at UMHB?
Responsibilities :
Provides in-service training. Supervises and reviews officer activity related to law enforcement, traffic / parking enforcement, investigations, and other tasks performed by officers.
In the absence of ranking command staff, serves as the officer in charge. Coordinates initial response operations with other emergency responders and performs a variety of administrative and technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Work schedule includes varied hours and shifts (day, evening, night, and weekend schedules may apply at the onset of employment and may be changed during the course of employment).
Work schedule also includes an on-call rotation which requires a no more than 30-minute response time from the time of call to arrival on campus.
Minimum Requirements :
- A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required.
- Current and valid Intermediate Peace Officer certification from TCOLE is required.
- A minimum of three (3) years full time employment experience in law enforcement is required (TCOLE Certification and a combination of law enforcement and related experience may be substituted).
- Must be proficient in grammar, spelling, and report-writing.
- Proficiency in law enforcement equipment, vehicle, and weapons is required.
- Must possess exceptional time management and detail-oriented skills.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable by UMHB auto insurance carrier.
