The Gordon Center for Simulation & Innovation in Medical Education (GCSIMED) is requesting approval by the Leadership Committee to hire a full time Director of Clinical Skills and Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education (CME). These are mission critical faculty leadership positions that are aligned with the strategic goals and mission of the Miller School of Medicine and UHealth to ascend to a top 25 medical school and to expand and promote the academic, clinical excellence of the health system. The Director of Clinical Skills will work closely with the Associate Dean of Clinical Medical Education, Course and Clerkship Directors, Director of Standardized Patient Program, Director of the Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation, and faculty members to develop curricula that include classroom, simulation, and clinical-setting based educational experiences. The Director will also oversee the development and implementation of multi-station low- and high-stakes OSCEs, that will occur several times throughout the core curriculum. These assessments will utilize standardized patients as well as high fidelity and task-based simulation, and will take place in several locations through the Miami and regional campuses. The Director will also participate in the support and remediation of students with clinical skills deficits. The Associate Dean for CME will report directly to Senior Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education and the Executive Dean of Education and Policy. The position will be responsible for CME activities for all of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and UHealth locations and will seek to advance continuing education, professional and inter-professional development opportunities for physicians and care providers. Continuing Medical Education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The funding for the position is supported by the Gordon Center’s annual funding support from the Florida Department of Education account GR020935 (100%). In FY23, the Gordon Center received an additional $500K in funding and is targeting an additional $500k (over FY23) in FY24. This position is critical for the Gordon Center to expand its projects and meet the requirements of the expanded state programs.
