What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Manager position at UNC-Chapel Hill?
The IT Manager will supervise the Department of Computer Science's IT staff, known as Computer Services, providing the specialized IT support required for the research and education needs of the Department of Computer Science. The position is responsible for the strategic and technical leadership of the department's IT staff, planning and organizing IT support work, and managing the department's IT budget and technical resources. The person in this position will also actively participate in several areas of technical support, depending on his or her areas of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five years of progressive experience in the field of Information Technology which has included some supervisory or management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in a relevant field (computer science, engineering, IT/IS, MBA, MPA) is preferred. A broad understanding of systems and network administration also preferred. Experience working in a complex, research environment with multiple operating systems is desirable, as is experience in administering Windows, Linux and/or MacOS. Excellent written and oral communications skills are also very valuable for this position. Experience working within IT at UNC CH or another research-intensive university is a plus. Prior experience with interacting with various campus stakeholders also preferred.
Master's and 1-2 years' experience or Bachelors and 2-4 years' experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
