What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Archaeologist position at UNC-Chapel Hill?
The Research Archaeologist will curate and provide access to the N.C. Archaeological Collection and implement Federal laws pertinent to the collection (including the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, or NAGPRA). The person will train undergraduate and graduate students in archaeological laboratory and field methods, assist with archaeological field schools, and serve on student thesis committees. The Research Archaeologist will design and carry out research on the archaeology of North Carolina and nearby regions. Additionally, the person will engage with the public by fielding requests for information, giving presentations, and working with museums and other organizations to design exhibits and programs.This person may teach courses, if needed, with a secondary faculty appointment.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD (or ABD) in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.Experience with archaeological collections, databases, public programming, and NAGPRA implementation is desirable.Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
