Job Summary
Registered Nurse who applies clinical expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within the Inpatient Nursing specialty area and functions in the following roles: clinical expert, educator, system thinker, change agent, and innovator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Complies with UNC Health Blue Ridge practices and policies to include Standards of Behavior and a System of Integrity.
- Develops a systematic education plan and evaluates Inpatient Nursing staff development programs in response to patient and healthcare trends, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities of the organization.
- Synthesizes literature and research findings to design interventions for selected problems or populations and promotes staff’s knowledge and skill in research and evidence based process and the application of these findings in practice.
- Provides educational consultation and services across the continuum in area of specialty.
- Assesses learning styles and creates educational programs and material based on assessment of population to be educated.
- Conducts annual departmental education needs assessment utilizing multiple data sources. Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding priorities.
- Coaches and mentors department staff in the development of education skills (curriculum development, adult learning principles, evaluation, etc.).
- Coaches and mentors department staff regarding patient experience initiatives to promote patient-centered care.
- Develops educational effectiveness measures for all programs and outcome measures for selected programs.
- Participates in selection of preceptors. Coaches preceptors on skill development and provide continuing education. Provides ongoing feedback and gives input into annual performance evaluation.
- Utilizes multiple education modalities and leverages use of technology in order to provide the most cost effective and efficient programs.
- Provides cost analysis for all education and manages related resource utilization. Provides information to manager with projected cost for budget development.
- Participates in facility wide program development.
- Provides leadership through commitment to serving other employees above self through teamwork, collaboration and developing others for team coordination.
- Demonstrates commitment to quality, patient safety, and operational excellence through evidence based practice, evaluation of trends and innovational solutions with interdisciplinary team collaboration.
- Plans, directs, organizes and evaluates education requirements for staff, patients, families and other healthcare providers related to designated specialty.
MARGINAL FUNCTION
- Participates in performance improvement activities as appropriate (i.e., LEAN).
- Other job duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Range of motion within functional limits. Requires frequently: pushing 40 lbs.; pulling 80 lbs.; standing; walking; repetitive trunk rotation-standing; manual dexterity; both handedness (both hands must be used).
- Requires functional vision and hearing.
- Requires visual color discrimination; and visual depth perception.
- Occasionally requires lifting 35 lbs. from floor to 53 in.; one handed carrying 15 lbs. Work kneeling; work squatting/crouching.
- In the environment occasionally exposed to wetness; slippery surfaces; and accident exposure.
- Must be able to travel throughout hospital campuses and offsite properties.
- Subject to irregular hours.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Must show evidence of Inpatient Nursing competencies.
- Minimum two years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in a practice area.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum and program development, program evaluation, self-learning modules. Proficient at Power Point and use of AV equipment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Required by May 2016, Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or Health Care Administration preferred. Two years of teaching experience preferred.
- MSN must be achieved within 3 years of hire date if not completed.
- Board Certification (B-CEN) must be achieved within 1 year of hire date.
- BLS-I, ACLS-I, PALS-I, TNCC-P, ENPC-P or achieved within 2 years of hire date.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the NC Board of Nursing.
- Must attend a minimum of 30 hours continuing education annually pertinent to practice area.
Location: UNC Health Blue Ridge · NSG - Med Surg-6 North
Schedule: Full Time, 1st Shift, Monday through Friday 8-5,k with availability to have flexible hours.
