What are the responsibilities and job description for the Splicing Technician position at Underground Contractors Inc.?
Underground Contractors, Inc. is seeking qualified Splicing Labor Technicians in the Detroit Metropolitan area who are proficient with fiber optic cable, splicing, terminating, testing, and documentation. Technician should have experience with aerial and underground installations of fiber, be fluent with OTDR test equipment, able to work in all weather conditions. Willing to train the right candidate.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints and splice diagrams.
- Prep and dress multiple types of aerial and underground fiber optic enclosures.
- Operate advanced tools and equipment including fusion splicers(single and ribbon), OTDRs, armored cable splitter
- Complete daily work orders along with as-builts
- Knowledge of fiber optic transmission and owner transmission equipment * Testing of active fiber circuits over distances of 20 miles
- Termination of fiber, pigtails, splice connectors, and unicam
- Performing audits and ring cuts on new and existing fibers
- Experience with PON systems including optical splitters
Skills/Abilities
- Must have excellent verbal and communication skills
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be detailed oriented
- Must be able to work reliably on your own
- Must be comfortable working in tight spaces such as manholes, vaults, and lift buckets
- Must be willing to work days and nights
- Must have experience working on construction sites
- Must be safety conscious
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Required license or certification
- Chauffer Driver's License
