What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Tutor P/T position at Union County Public Schools?

Provide non-classroom, academic instruction to students on an individual or small-group basis for proactive or remedial purposes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Provide academic instructions to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve learning skills, or prepare for academic tests. 2. Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students. 3. Monitor student performance or assist students in academic environments, such as classrooms, laboratories, or computing centers. 4. Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning. 5. Maintain records of students' assessment results, progress, feedback, or school performance, ensuring confidentiality of all records. 6. Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, school administrators, or counselors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress. 7. Identify, develop, or implement intervention strategies, tutoring plans, or follow individualized education plans (IEPs) for students during tutoring sessions. 8 Prepare instructional materials and assists in maintaining a safe and orderly environment. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first 1. Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments. 2. Cooperate with classroom teachers in developing the necessary skills for students to be successful in the classroom, communicating students ‘needs with the best interest of the students in mind. 3. Teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies. 4. Establish and maintain a professional working environment. 5. Schedule tutoring appointments with students and/or their teacher. 6. Administer, proctor, or score academic or diagnostic assessments. 7. Encourage students. 8. Implement effective pupil management procedures. Maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code. 9. Prepare specific lesson for each session as needed and monitor student performance. 10. Perform other related duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Minimum Qualifications Desirable Qualification  Title 1 and Non-priority schools, the following is required: Associates Degree or 48 hours of college credit or verified  Bachelor’s Degree  Certified teacher license in relevant areas of focus Union County Public Schools Job Description HQ status from another source.  High Priority Schools math tutor applicants must pass an assessment.  Experience working with students with difference learning abilities.  Experience identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE  Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.  Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.  Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications  Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION  Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT  Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.  Teaching others how to do something.  Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others. PROBLEM SOLVING  Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS  Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience  Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS  Have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individual students, and school community  Employee must be flexible and be able to work well with others in meeting the student’s needs and program goals PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS WORK ENVIRONMENT: Strength: Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices. Environmental Conditions: Varies from classrooms to exposure to outside weather conditions with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise intensity levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods. Union County Public Schools Job Description Hazards: Furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals and fumes (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).

Pay: $25.00 per hour
