Position Overview
The Recycling Consultant will have day-to-day Business Development responsibility and strategic Account Management duties within the designated territory or customer segment. This individual develops a wide range of scrap metal suppliers ranging from industrial accounts, construction/demolition companies, facilities, and/or other sources from a wide assortment of origins. Reports to the National Director of Sales or Regional Director of Sales, depending on designated market.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Executes the following customer service variables: timely transportation, information reporting, research, and customer payables
- Responsible for cultivating his or her own sales and maintaining weekly sales metrics
- Builds and maintains customer relationships
- Obtains new business in markets through face to face interaction
- Utilizes cold calling and door knocking techniques
- Distributes marketing materials and participates in industry events
- Up-sells current & new customers
- Attends mandatory sales meetings and training sessions
- Reports sales statistics accurately and promptly to management through Excel reports and through call reports
- Assists with training and mentoring of new hires
- Executes New Business Development and retains current accounts within territory
- Demonstrates consistent execution of the Sales and Marketing Plan
- Maintains constant improvement and positive growth while achieving targeted levels of profitability within overall account base
- Develops long-term relationships and short-term sales strategies that are consistent with the corporate vision
- Engages in training, support, feedback and positive reinforcement / interactions with other Sales Team members
- Operates with integrity while upholding ethical standards of the organization
- Engages in aggressive cold-calling, event attendance, and networking to source potential customers
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal negotiating skills
- Develops intuition towards Target Markets (Manufacturing, Metal Service Centers, Demo/Contractors, Facility, Scrap Recyclers, Utility, and Obsolete/Repair)
- Responds to inquiries regarding the scope of our services and capabilities
- Views material and generates corresponding quotations and proposals
- Initiates QEH&S diplomacy with perspective suppliers
- Accesses bid lists & new opportunities
- Understands the market threats posed by our competitors
- Finds profitable niche markets
- Demonstrates competency in all aspects of the job and company objectives
- Demonstrates understanding of company policies, rules and trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Characteristics
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Proven track record and direct sales experience
- Ability to identify, filter, and aggressively pursue potential suppliers
- The Company desires a candidate who has shown a stable job history, dependable attendance practices and whose references can state is a trustworthy individual
- Candidates must pass a pre-employment physical, background and credit check
- Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager and / or business needs of the operation; must be able to attend charity / networking / customer events after normal business hours
