What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Resource Development position at United Way of the Greater Dayton Area?

OVERALL PURPOSE:

Provides leadership to generate financial and other resource support for United Way’s impact in Montgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties. The successful candidate will be a seasoned development professional, knowledgeable about individual giving strategies, including direct response, planned giving, and event giving, as well as a proven ability to influence change in a complex environment. The Vice President will possess exceptional relationship-building skills to help build deep relationships within the communities we serve. This candidate will work closely with RD staff in identifying, cultivating, and expanding significant individual donor and endowment relationships across the UWGDA’s portfolio. Ensures the advancement and execution of comprehensive relationship management strategies to generate growth, retention, participation, and revenue goals for the individuals within the assigned portfolio. Works to establish and preserve the United Way as the primary philanthropic conduit between individuals, their employers, and the communities in which they operate. Serves as a member of the Leadership Team.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

· Leads the Resource Development team, including forming individual goals and objectives, regular staff meetings, professional development, and oversight.

· Support the strategic plan that guides the organization to meet ambitious short- and long-term fundraising goals while optimizing opportunities to diversify individual funding sources.

· Ensure appropriate planning to translate programmatic priorities into long-term and short-term development strategies, goals, and objectives.

· Establish key performance indicators to ensure the high performance of the team and the achievement of goals and objectives for UWGDA and the local network.

· Work to optimize the philanthropic operations systems to support the management of donors for maximum lifetime giving potential.

· Partner effectively with the organizational leadership to ensure structural alignment around key priorities, fundraising strategies, and event fundraising.

· Cultivates and maintains high-value relationships with top-level business executives, local government, and community leaders.

· Secure corporate gifts, sponsorships, and non-traditional sources of revenue.

· Work closely with the top 50 campaign accounts to educate their leaders and employees about the value of United Way.

· Actively participates and engages in fundraising campaigns and donor relations activities.

· Reinforces the philosophy that all workplace campaigns are UWGDA campaigns implemented by stakeholder employees throughout the community.

· Helps to establish collaborative relationships with foundations, corporate giving programs, and governmental organizations to leverage the positive impact of community investments made in human services.

· Utilize RD software to generate reports for analysis and planning.

· Represent United Way on boards, committees, and at key community events. Encourages RD and other staff to do the same.

· Other duties as required to achieve results.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, or other related field. Master’s or other advanced degree preferred.

· Five or more years of professional work experience, with five or more years of previous experience in a fundraising, development, communication, and/or public relations capacity required. Thorough working knowledge of relationship-based fundraising procedures and philosophies.

· Ability to plan, organize, and implement strategies and activities to achieve organizational objectives.

· Capacity to manage and motivate interactively with a high level of interpersonal skills.

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required, including public speaking and presentation skills.

· Excellent listening skills, with the proven ability to gather information from others.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Hybrid office environment

· Local travel within the regional area, including occasional evenings and weekends.

· Reliable personal transportation is required.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
