As a writer and editor within the OptumRx Strategic Writing and Review team, you will be a vital factor in our sales success as you apply your exceptional strategic writing skills in the development of strategic, compelling and persuasive Request for Proposal (RFP) narrative, including cover letters, executive summaries and responses as well as general RFP content for new products and services. You’ll have the satisfaction of seeing your storytelling skills come to life while working alongside expert RFP, marketing and product teams.

This position supports the Employer, Payer, Provider and Government markets RFP teams. The Strategic Writer will partner with Sales, Business Development Consultants, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Content Managers, Proposal Managers and Management to create responsive, accurate, concise and strategic work. Candidates must be able to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, complex environment in which close collaboration and continuous communication are critical.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and write strategic executive summaries and RFP/RFI responses for new and renewal business
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and other proposal department personnel to write strategic responses
• Collaborate with Content Managers to develop new or update/edit existing RFP database content
• Interview client facing teams and SMEs to develop strategic messaging and articulate the proposed solution within the RFP response 
• Perform research using all resources, including an extensive database of proposal content; customize database text as needed to: a) answer the question directly and thoroughly b) reflect the proposed service solution c) persuade the customer that our products / solutions solve their specific problems 
• Understand and articulate sales strategy, value propositions and key win themes
• Conduct end-to-end strategic proposal reviews to make sure all questions reflect the sales strategy, the customer-specific value story is woven throughout and that it reflects One Voice (Shared accountability with Strategic Review Analyst)
• Coach / mentor less tenured writers and project managers
• Adhere to quality principles (responsive, accurate, concise, strategic), style guide, and other criteria for compelling and consistent messaging 
• Adhere to established proposal processes and defined roles / responsibilities throughout proposal development
• Contribute to proposed development and implementation of process updates, improvements and writing models 
• Develop innovative approaches for achieving positive outcomes and driving proposals to completion within the deadline requirements 
• Manage multiple projects with a sensitivity to tight deadlines and to working in a collaborative group environment

Required Qualifications:

• BA or BS degree in English, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field or equivalent experience or equivalent related experience
• 5 years of proposal writing experience
• Experience creating successful client messaging and articulating strategy in sales support materials, such as executive summaries, cover letters, RFP responses, and proactive proposals
• Experience leading strategic discussions
• Experience managing multiple deliverables and prioritizing work accordingly
• Experience using analytical and critical thinking in solving problems
• Experience working as part of a team to complete complex and time-sensitive projects 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of medical, behavioral health and other healthcare related products and services
• Experience interviewing stakeholders and writing strategic responses and new content
• Experience working with a content database, such as RFPio, and populating common sections of proposals
• Experience in Healthcare
• Experience in pharmacy-related writing or product experience 
• Experience working in Microsoft Teams

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 to $116,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
