The Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking an Instructional Support Associate with the in-house title of Theatre and Instruction Technician. This position will support undergraduate and graduate programs, productions, and rentals. The incumbent will contribute to instructional technology support; theatrical lighting and sound mentorship, design and supervision; facilities oversight; and media support for both productions and instruction.
This is a part-time position that would average 23.25 hours per week. This position requires evening hours and flexibility that requires more hours during the academic year and less during summer/winter.

The duties and responsibilities include:
- Serve as Theatre Technician to provide general technical support to undergraduate and graduate programs, all departmental productions, events, and rentals. Incumbent will work in the Center for the Arts scene shop and theatres.
- Serve as lighting and sound supervisor for the Katharine Cornell Theatre (KCT). The incumbent will supervise technical rehearsals and performances at the KCT, including those for groups renting the facilities
- Support and troubleshoot instructional technology and audio-visual solutions for Theatre and Dance classrooms, labs, studios and theatres. Facilitate and manage the integration of new media for departmental productions and/or studios, labs, and theatres.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate students with select lab projects and manage production stagehands, with special attention to live and recorded sound for the stage. Employee ensures students and stage hands are complying with safety requirements, and are following project instructions and guidelines as appropriate.
- Work with appropriate department channels to assure the theatre/instructional technology systems in the dance studios are maintained for classes, rehearsals and special events. This may include set up and trouble shooting and facilitating virtual learning environments, including instruction and productions.
- Collaborate effectively with Center for the Arts facilities staff and Theatre & Dance personnel to assure spaces are in good condition, and restored to neutral or prepped for specific activity.

Our dynamic and interdisciplinary department includes programs that offer a BA and BFA in Dance, Theatre Performance, Theatre Studies, Music Theatre, and Design Technology, as well as a graduate program that offers a MA and PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies and an MFA in Dance. Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience
- Professional experience in performing arts, stage and live event productions, specifically sound mixing, live sound reinforcement, recorded sound, and new media integration.
- Must have knowledge of technical theater and theatrical construction techniques, which may include but is not limited to: sound, new media, television equipment (including cameras, switchers, digital and analog editors and microphones), theatrical electrics, lighting/projection, audio, video and recording, and managing production stagehands/technicians.
- Must have knowledge of computer, media equipment and audio-visual set up/installation and troubleshooting/solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience with: virtual and live classroom technology, other areas of Theatre such as live streaming, box office/budget, supervisory and/or mentorship, space management, higher education.
- Familiarity with carpentry/power tools, design/draw builds, props trucking and storage practices, and rigging is preferred.
Physical Demands
Candidates must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift 50 lbs.
