The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an outstanding physician researcher to accelerate health services or population health research across three outstanding Divisions, Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Academic General Pediatrics, within the Department of Pediatrics. This leadership position will drive the divisions’ and Department’s strategic goal to grow research through leadership and mentorship of faculty and fellows, as well as participate in clinical care.
The Division of Academic General Pediatrics has a vibrant faculty with a variety of academic
interests, including medical education, advocacy, quality improvement, residency education, use of
simulation for medical training, and informatics. Clinical interests beyond general pediatrics
include LGBTQ health, autism spectrum disorder, and adoption medicine.
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine boasts a level 1 trauma center with
approximately 400 trauma alerts/year, and a strong fellowship program. The emergency department provides care for 60-75,000 patients per year. Within the faculty there is a strong interest and national presence in simulation, injury prevention, urgent care and emergency medicine.
The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) is comprised of an outstanding group of academic faculty and staff who are recognized as local and national leaders in education, quality
improvement, advocacy, informatics, and clinical research. The Division has a thriving fellowship
program now celebrating its tenth year.
The successful candidate should have an exceptional record of accomplishment in health services or population health research and ongoing potential for external research funding. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, and a record of interdisciplinary
collaboration is desirable. Candidates should possess a Doctoral degree (MD and/or MD/PhD) who is licensed or eligible for license in the state of Alabama as well as BC/BE in Pediatrics. A generous
start up package is available to qualified candidates as well as support in search of independent
funding. Salary and tenure status are negotiable based on experience and current academic
achievements.
The UAB Department of Pediatrics has nationally recognized expertise and firmly
established multidisciplinary programs. This position will provide opportunities for growth of
divisional programs as well as opportunities for collaboration with other distinguished programs
within UAB.
