Position Summary:

Seeking a Project Advancement Specialist to support pre-and post-award grants and contracts processes for the Institute of Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R).

The Research Advancement Specialist position supports faculty and staff in their efforts to apply for grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements, as well as to assist with administrative post-award management.

Essential Duties will include:

Provide a supportive environment for faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of proposals and administrative management of awards.

Respond to inquiries in a timely manner using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and methods as appropriate to address questions and/or concerns.

Review funding announcements and providing guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements.

Contact sponsors for clarification of application guidelines.
Develop administrative components of grant and contract proposals for a wide variety of funding agencies, including federal sponsors, industry, philanthropic sponsors, and local governmental agencies.

Develop complex budgets, draft budget justifications, secure internal approvals, liaise with sub recipients, check proposal documents for compliance, prepare sponsor application packages, and work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs for institutional review and submission.

Identify specific areas and solutions for process improvement, and draft changes to methods, procedures, and work instructions.

Interpret sponsor guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial requirements imposed on institutions of higher education.

Assist in all areas of award management, which may include but are not limited to: Administrative post award management requests, such as At-Risks, Pre-Award Costs, re-budgets, No Cost Extensions, etc.

Guidance on sponsor policies and regulations regarding the administration of award funds.

Analyze award documents and advise faculty on non-financial management issues, resolving complex problems with faculty, internal offices, sub recipients, and sponsors.

Utilize University of Arkansas resources and offices to resolve issues related to conflict of interest, cost sharing, subcontracting, and intellectual property.

Analyze, reconcile, and report financial information on existing sponsored and local accounts; forecast account deficits and residual balances, gather, and analyze data from available university reports.

Work under deadlines, manage multiple responsibilities and duties, with interruptions, and in unclear and/or changing situations.

Manage and review for accuracy, records regarding effort reporting, cost sharing, and faculty commitments.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Finance or similar field
  • At least two years of Research Administration experience
  • Large Grant Submission Experience
  • CRA or CRFA certification
  • Advanced Level with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Data Management
  • Proven experience in submission of multi-institutional National Institutes of Health and/or Department of Defense grants.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Finance or equivalent field
  • Experience working directly with faculty
  • Experience working with Workday
