DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the academic division of the university dedicated to workforce and career development. CPE helps professional working adults upskill, reskill and advance their careers. CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis, and also works with employers and local experts to develop programs targeted to regional needs for economic development. More than 1,500 professionals teach in a wide array of specialized practice domains, including outstanding faculty from across UC Davis. Last year, CPE recorded nearly 74,000 enrollments in more than 4,400 classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master’s degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. CPE also manages the university’s relationship with Coursera, a leading MOOC platform, and has generated more than a million enrollments through this partnership. CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. CPE employs approximately 180 employees (career, academic, contract and limited) and more than 60 student employees during peak periods, and draws on the expertise of approximately 1,700 instructors.
JOB SUMMARY
As part of a highly-publicized grant-funded UCOP initiative, develop and direct a novel campus-wide pathway program designed to entice students who did not complete their degree to return to campus.
Under general direction of the Access Programs Director provide in-depth, wide-ranging and complex academic advising and holistic services to stop-out and other types of students seeking to complete a UC undergraduate education. Interpret and apply complex Academic Senate, college and campus academic and administrative regulations and policies associated broadly with undergraduate education and advising. Develop and propose innovative solutions to complex and difficult problems that prevent students from re-entering UC Davis.
Provide leadership and supervision to academic advisors in the Division of Continuing and Professional Education’s (CPE) degree-completion initiative and campus colleagues serving this population.
Represent the division at public forums and respond on behalf of the division to inquiries from the general public regarding this program.
Utilizing data gathered from working with this population, make recommendations to senior campus leadership regarding new solutions and program types that would best serve these learners.
With a shared leadership approach, collaborate with other CPE staff on projects, programs, and events that serve students from pre-matriculation to post-graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- B.S./B. A. degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in holistic advising and counseling approaches.
- Experience interpreting and applying academic policies, procedures, and requirements in a higher education setting; recommending solutions to progression and requirement issues; ability to make proper referrals to other campus resources.
- Experience and skills to facilitate workshops and present in public forums.
- Experience working independently, making decisions and managing details of complex projects and processes with minimal direction, and ability to adapt to constantly shifting priorities and outcomes.
- Experience discussing and engaging in practices directly related to equity, inclusion, identity development, diversity, and cultural competency and humility.
- Experience using interpersonal, communication, problem solving and listening skills to identify and document patterns of student academic needs; to develop strategies and programs to successfully meet needs; and to interact and provide guidance to students and parents from all backgrounds.
- Ability to contribute and lead in a shared leadership model where collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation are emphasized in order to provide high quality student services.
- Ability to lead staff in a variety of venues and circumstances.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in counseling, higher education leadership, student services, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience creating and implementing academic success, student leadership, professional development programs and/or workshops at UC Davis or a similar institution.
- Experience using student-facing programs and systems websites for advising students, such Banner and Oasis.
- Knowledge of UC Davis College and University regulations, procedures and academic requirements to provide advice to Dean’s and Directors on existing policies and/or regulations and to make suggestions for improvements.
- Knowledge of UC policies regarding privacy of information.
