Director of Heart Failure - Transplant Pediatric Cardiology

The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals are recruiting a new faculty member to direct the rapidly expanding pediatric heart failure, mechanical support, and pediatric heart transplant programs at Benioff Children’s Hospitals (BCH) San Francisco and Oakland. This faculty member will be responsible for the medical direction, in collaboration with the surgical director, of the pediatric cardiology heart failure/mechanical support/transplant inpatient service at BCH San Francisco, and staff pediatric cardiology heart failure/transplant outpatient clinics at both BCH SF and BCH Oakland. Appointments will be proposed at the Associate or Full Professor ranks of the In Residence, Clinical X, or Health Sciences (HS) Clinical faculty series. Academic rank is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
• Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree, Board certification in Pediatrics, and subspecialty certification in Pediatric Cardiology; including formal clinical training or adequate experience in heart failure, mechanical support and transplant.
• CA Medical License/Eligibility.
• An interest, commitment, and experience in teaching and research is essential (minimum 20%); the faculty member will play an active role in the ongoing training and education of medical students, Pediatric Residents (San Francisco and/or Oakland) and Fellows.
• UNOS Certification.
• Advanced 4th year Pediatric Fellowship training and a minimum 5 years’ practice experience preferred.
• Prior experience directing a Pediatric Heart Transplant Program preferred.
• Applicant must meet all requirements at time of hire.

Expected duties include:
• Medical Director, Pediatric Heart Failure/Transplant/Assist Device Program: responsible for all aspects of the program’s development, administration, and clinical activities. Candidate will work with the hospital administration, the Heart Center, and the Department of Pediatrics in optimizing the structure, fiscal status, administrative organization, and clinical outcomes. Successful candidate will have administrative oversight of the program in collaboration with the Surgical Director.
• Heart Failure/Transplant/Assist Device Program Clinical Responsibilities: Inpatient consultation in the ICU and CTCU, mechanical assist oversight, and outpatient clinics. Successful candidate will oversee data management for the programs clinical and financial activities including: collection, analysis, and presentation. They will lead and encourage all academic aspects of the program and its members.
• Inpatient Cardiology Service: Successful candidate will be a member of the inpatient cardiology service along with approximately 8 other Pediatric Cardiologists. The service runs the 12-bed Cardiac Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) and consults on all other Pediatric Cardiology patients (pre-and post-surgical, and medical consultation) in the hospital. The weekday service will entail approximately 8 weeks of weekday service. The weekend on call service will be shared among a larger group of cardiologists, entailing about 6 weekends per year.
