Position Summary:
As a member of the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (OVPTL IT) team within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at UCI, supports the unique needs of the OVPTL Dean's office and subsidiary offices. This includes over a dozen student-serving offices, providing an array of support services including academic advising, tutoring, and testing. Common client needs include web application development, software system integration, and custom reporting.
Under the general supervision of the Senior Software Engineer & Technical Lead, the Application Developer applies object oriented and relational database programming concepts for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects in a .NET environment. Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues. Works on web application, ETL, reporting, and automation programming assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Participates actively in a cross-functional Agile team. Interacts directly with end users and clients as required.
Compensation Range: $34.15 - $61.64

Required:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of practical experience as a software developer or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.
- Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts.
- Extensive experience developing front-end web interfaces using HTML5, CSS, Javascript, and related technologies.
- Experience writing complex SQL queries and working with relational databases.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback on software code.
- Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
- Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
- Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
- Demonstrated software repository skills, preferably with Git.
- Demonstrated testing and test planning skills, including demonstrated experience writing unit tests.
- Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
- Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated broad problem solving skills.
Preferred:
- Experience developing back-end web systems using .NET technologies including C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and related technologies.
- Proficiency with .NET concepts such as Entity Framework and ADO.NET, and experience working with Microsoft Development tools such as Visual Studio and SQL Server Management Studio.
- Knowledge of data modeling and report authoring in business intelligence tools.
