Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.
At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.
Position Emphasis
The Scholarship Coordinator administers scholarship programs by recruiting student scholars, organizing selection processes, designing engagement opportunities, coaching students, and serving as the main point of contact for student scholars. This position works directly within the Office of Academic Achievement, with strong collaborative efforts with the Financial Aid & Scholarship team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Recruitment, selection, interviewing, and nominating potential candidates for various programs, and communicating selection decisions.
- Administering student engagement and wrap-around services.
- Liaising with on and off-campus partners, including the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office to manage reporting and data needs.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Manage a caseload of students in cohort-based scholarship programs that provide wrap-around services, including, but not limited to: Reisher, Daniels Fund, Boettcher, Denver Scholarship Foundation, Pre-Collegiate, and other university partner scholarship programs.
- Meet with scholarship students to assure continued academic progress and refer students to support services including tutoring, coaching, academic skills, academic advising, peer mentoring, or engagement opportunities.
- Monitor student participation in program elements, and completion of program requirements.
- Maintain working knowledge of scholarship Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) and Donor Gift Agreements in order to remain in compliance with donor intent.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment efforts for cohort programs, including outreach, application management, interviews, student selection, and notification.
- Maintain frequent and open communication with Financial Aid & Scholarship Office team to facilitate award posting, using shared systems and processes.
- Collaborate with Advancement, Institutional Research, Academic Advising, Financial Aid & Scholarship Office, and off-campus scholarship administrators to provide data, metrics, and other reporting measures related to scholar engagement and success.
- Administrative and planning support for events geared towards CU Denver scholarship recipients.
- Serve as a contact person and resource for nationally competitive scholarships by supporting and facilitating student participation in these opportunities.
- May supervise 1-2 student employees, consistent with academic calendar and resource availability.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
- One (1) year of professional experience working in financial aid, admissions, scholarships, academic advising, academic support, and/or student affairs in an academic, non-profit or higher ed setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working collaboratively in a higher education environment, specifically with university faculty, staff, and diverse populations of students
- Two years of experience in a financial aid, admissions, scholarships, academic advising, and/or student affairs office in a higher education environment.
- Experience working with financial aid/student record system such as PeopleSoft or similar software.
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Experience with financial aid and/or scholarship administration
- Experience with financial aid/student record systems such as PeopleSoft or similar software.
- Experience planning events and facilitating engagement initiatives for students
- Experience serving students
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range/salary for this position has been established at $45,049-$50,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.
