UConn Health is searching for a Clinical Program Coordinator for the Safe Patient Handling Program to join our patient-focused care team. Gain experience in a world-class facility with the highest level of technology, designed specifically with patient safety and experience in mind.

At UConn Health this position is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of an acute clinical program across the entire continuum of care. Works collaboratively with patients, their families, health care providers, and community groups throughout the continuum of care. Serves as a leader for the program's performance improvement initiatives and community outreach. This position will work in John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT in the Professional Practice and Clinical Excellence Department leading and implementing our Safe Patient Handling Program. (liaison between departments and professionals across John Dempsey Hospital including but not limited to nursing, physical rehabilitation, providers, quality, nursing education, safety, and radiology)

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with hours predominantly 8:00am-4:30pm, including minor holidays.30 minute unpaid meal break

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under limited supervision of a Director, Nursing or other designee.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Clinical Program Team Members

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Establish a Safe Patient Handling program and lead implementation

Provide oversight and facilitation of UConn Health's John Dempsey Hospital Safe Patient Handling Program

Develop yearly program goals

Create and establish protocols, policies, forms and tools related to the program

Establish key performance indicators, collect measurement data and evaluate processes and/or outcomes of care

Complete initial staff training for safe patient handling across John Dempsey Hospital

as directed by employees' job requirements

Develop and provide ongoing training for safe patient handling

Expert resource for high risk tasks and complex patient mobility needs

Facilitate, set goals and chair regular meetings of the Safe Patient Handling Committee

Assist UConn Health Workers' Compensation Manager in the completion of staff retraining for safe patient handling related injuries

Coordinate interprofessional components of the program (ie departments, staff, facilities, administration)

Oversight of John Dempsey Hospital safe patient handling equipment including recommendation of updated/new equipment

Maintain inventory of Safe Patient Handling equipment (may include date of purchase, location of equipment, date of inspection/service, date of repair)

Assist with direct patient care based on license in the acute care setting

Monitor for new practice guidelines associated with safe patient handling

Recommend, design and implement best practices

Obtain and maintains program certification/designation

Other job related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles of program management; knowledge of specialty anatomy and physiology, diagnosis, identification and triage, preventive care, hyperacute care, diagnostics, acute care, post-acute care and discharge planning, rehabilitation, systems and quality, community care. Role model in critical thinking, assessment skills and evidenced based nursing care.

Effective communication [oral and written] and interpersonal skills.

Considerable analytical skills

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office application: Excel, Publisher, Word and PowerPoint

Strong leadership skills, time and project management skills

Ability to lead educational activities.

Ability to facilitate change , work harmoniously with teams and manage effectively.

Ability to multitasks.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: & TRAINING

Bachelor's or Associate degree in an applicable discipline (examples are Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist)

A minimum of three [3] years clinical experience in an acute care facility/setting to include training on clinical program field.

Must possess and maintain Connecticut State license during employment, in the required discipline.

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push and pull heavy objects.

Be prepared to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Works irregular hours.

May be exposed to communicable/infectious diseases.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Safe Patient Handling initiatives

Certification in Safe Patient Handling

Ability to work across disciplines within a health system

FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY MINIMUM: $93,538 (More based on experience)
