Position Summary:
The University of Idaho, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, is seeking applicants for a tenure track, Assistant Professor, to serve as a Research Faculty - Extension Specialist in Natural Resource and Range Economics. The incumbent will be responsible for working with the Extension
Specialists, Educators and other Area Extension Educators to further natural resource and range extension/research in Idaho. They will be responsible for the development of new (or updated) economic and management information to inform issues related to natural resources and range in Idaho; collecting data from on-going research projects; organizing information into a standardized report format; preparing reports for publication; informing clients when reports are available; maintaining inventories of publications in current media format to meet demands; assisting in updating reports on the Idaho AgBiz web site (https://www.uidaho.edu/cals/idaho-agbiz). Areas of research and extension emphasis could include issues related to rangelands management (public and private) including but not limited to wildlife management, threatened, and endangered species, invasive species, wildfire, and grazing. We expect this individual to develop a productive relationship with stakeholders and collaborate with UI research and extension faculty located throughout Idaho, including those affiliated with the UI Rangeland Center, as well as nationally. This individual is expected to publish research in appropriate peer reviewed (refereed) journals, attend professional conferences, and seek and secure funding from extramural agencies, including but not limited to Federal agencies, commodity commissions. The faculty member will mentor graduate students in thesis research. The faculty member is expected to attend faculty meetings and to participate in committees and service at the department, college and/or university level. Professional service is also expected, including but not limited to service to disciplinary associations, reviews of journal manuscripts, grant proposals, and external promotion packets.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Agricultural Economics or related degree is required by date of hire.
  • Experience conducting research in agriculture and natural resources, particularly as pertains to the Western United States.
  • Experience with designing and conducting effective data collection methodologies.
  • Experience working with teams and people of various social cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate extension or educational programming.
  • Potential for or record of publications in Extension outlets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of western natural resource issues, particularly with respect to public and private rangelands.
  • Experience working with agricultural producers and agribusiness industries, through Extension or the private sector.
  • Experience in analyzing economic issues related to natural resources and range.
  • Ability to design and conduct effective data collection methodologies.



Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule including participating in evening and weekends.
