Position Overview
The Technical Assistant supports faculty, students staff and external clients through management of the instructional technology pool; providing instructional support in labs and classes; and providing technical support in departmental spaces, including soundstage, recording studio and computer labs.
Job Description
50% Instructional Technology Pool Duties:
- Supervise check-out and check-in of film equipment
- Hire, train, and supervise student hourly workers
- Manage reservation schedules, procedures and databases for equipment check-out
- Keep strict records of student enrollment, training, and contracts supporting all production classes
- Coordinate technology maintenance and repairs
- In consultation with faculty and staff, make recommendations for process improvements and equipment needs
- Maintain a complete, accurate and up-to-date inventory of all FMS equipment
- Coordinate with faculty on classroom instructional technology needs
- Instruct students on, and maintain software including Adobe Creative Suite, Pro Tools, Toon Boom and other helper applications
- Assist and instruct students in soundstage and recording studio usage
- Assist in maintenance and enhancement of production spaces including sound stage, recording studio, production classroom, animation classroom
- Instruct faculty and students in use of video, audio, and film equipment available from the Instructional Technology Pool.
- Assist department, faculty, staff, and service center clients in producing film shoots and other productions on soundstage and in recording studio
- Assist faculty, staff, and students in troubleshooting problems with equipment, editing, production and audio issues.
Position Requirements
This position will be working on-site at the Lawrence campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in film/tv/arts or related field, or HS Diploma/GED equivalency and 2 years of professional experience;
- Previous experience utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Apple computers, Microsoft suite as evidenced by application materials;
- Previous experience or course work in motion picture production technology as evidenced by application materials;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with theatrical lighting systems; visual effects technology and technique;
- Previous experience working with diverse populations in an inclusive environment.
