Statement of Job:

The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Campus Safety Officer (CSO). UMA has a strong commitment to providing a safe environment for our faculty, staff, and students. As a CSO, in addition to performing general patrolling, you will also assist with any campus emergencies and security issues, provide escort services, attend to key and card access issues, and secure campus buildings.

UMA’s CSO is expected to be a common presence on campus; engaging and participating in community policing and problem-solving programs to improve the safety culture on campus. The CSO will enforce University regulations, policies, and Student Conduct Code, and monitor buildings and grounds. The majority of the time is spent on tasks requiring basic knowledge of safety and security policies and procedures.

Work schedule: The regular schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Occasional nights and weekend hours may be required.

Wage: $19.44 per hour (Wage Band 21) or the appropriate transfer rate for a current UMS employee.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must possess computer and smartphone literacy
  • Must be able to learn and use many computer programs and skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and during campus emergencies
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move 50 pounds


Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • One year of relevant work experience
  • Valid Class C Maine driver’s license

This can be a physically demanding position and typically requires: balancing, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, threatening environments, and/or verbal harassment. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical assessment is required.
