Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology is looking for a Radiation Therapist to administer doses of radiation as prescribed by the radiation oncologist for the treatment of disease, utilizing ionizing radiation producing equipment. Operate in a safe and patient focused manner to provide high quality patient care. Work on a highly functional, large team at Michigan Medicine main campus with a requirement for flexibility in job duties per requirements of the team and dependent upon clinic needs. Proficiency in delivering External Beam Radiation Therapy Treatments to cancer patients, as well as experience working in a CT simulator.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist in simulation procedures and perform patient treatment education and training for EBRT
  • Deliver EBRT treatments using Varian linear accelerators ranging in complexity from standard 3D treatments to SBRT and SRS
  • Help to maintain all equipment in a safe and satisfactory working order, reporting all replacement needs to the Chief or Assistant Chief Therapist
  • Assist in variance tracking and the reporting of near misses and aid in the root cause analysis to introduce process improvement in an effort to avoid reoccurrence
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with coverage where needed when the team requires
  • Help to identify areas of operational inefficiency and participate in the implementation of department growth initiatives
  • Participate in the development of the clinical policies and procedures pertinent to the success of the department and safety of the patient
  • Serve as a resource to patients and other healthcare providers at Michigan Medicine

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from high school is necessary;
  • Graduation from an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology is necessary.
  • Registration or registry-eligible in radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is necessary
  • Competent and proficient performing all procedures relating to patient treatment including: OBI, CBCT, SDX, and use of ARIA software
  • Must be a team player who is able to handle themselves in a professional manner and work well within a large, diverse team
  • Builds constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect
  • Responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or values to accomplish goals and solve problems
  • Builds credibility as a representative by demonstrating personal commitment and sharing information
  • Above average attendance is mandatory

Work Schedule

Five days, 40 hours per week. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the clinic.

General supervision and training is received from the Chief Radiation Therapist

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
