Required Qualifications:

  • Business college, office skills training, university level education, clerical experience involving contact with the public, or a combination of education/training and experience totaling four years.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; clear understandable English.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Experience working with computerized scheduling, both in person and on the phone.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and welcoming manner using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and voice tone.
  • Communication skills for interviewing, registering and scheduling patients.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

General Statement of Responsibilities:

The Admissions Interviewer at Minneapolis Community Technical College (Minneapolis College) supports provider staff by assessing appropriate service needed when scheduling patients. Assigned responsibilities are carried out in a manner respectful of the rights of patients, and conducive to the efficient rendering of high-quality ambulatory care.

This is a 9-month appointment at 32 hours per week during the academic year and 16 hours a week for 6 weeks in the summer.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

  • Screen patients:
    • Check Minneapolis College student status to determine eligibility.
    • Obtain insurance information if the student has an insurance plan.
    • Obtain information from the patient to determine what service is needed.
  • Appointment scheduling and appointment arrivals
    • Register new patients
    • Verify and edit demographic information on established patients
    • Copy student insurance card for scanning into the EHR.
    • Obtain general release for insurance claims process.
    • Obtain HIPAA acknowledgment at first check-in and as needed.
    • Obtain demographic information at check-in.
    • Schedule appointments according to Minneapolis College guidelines.
  • Perform delegated tasks
    • Notification of patients when an appointment has been bumped.
    • Mark appointment status as appropriate.
    • Manage outgoing and incoming mail.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
    • Duties and tasks assigned.
  • Continual improvement of systems and processes supporting patient access to service.
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings, classes and training.
    • Maintain familiarity and compliance with applicable OSHA and MERTKA guidelines.
    • Participate in ongoing review of policies, procedures and protocols.
    • Participate in Quality Improvement projects.
  • File confidential documents for medical records to scan; shred confidential papers at end of day.
  • Assist providers and staff as needed.
  • Answer incoming phone lines.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
