Job Description
Analyzes applications and determines the eligibility of transfer students for admission to the University of New Orleans. Examines transcripts from colleges and universities for transfer credit and determines transferable credit, calculates semester-by-semester and cumulative grade point averages, reads and matches course descriptions, and assigns UNO equivalents when possible prior to a student’s record.
Interprets non-traditional college credit earned through military service schools,
College Level Examination Program, American Institute of Banking, National Secretaries Association, and others for deans, faculty, and students.
Interprets university policy and determines the academic status of transfer or former UNO students. Applies transfer credit practices and eligibility requirements set by each college or division and admits students to appropriate degree programs in accordance with these practices and requirements. Confers with deans, graduate coordinators, and departments as necessary.
Councils with current UNO students, who elect to take coursework at other colleges and universities in order to ensure credit with transfer.
Helps Returning UNO students with applying and meeting with their Academic Advisor.
Consults with academic deans and college office counselors with respect to these students and supplements UNO records of those students when course work is complete.
Maintains reference materials such as catalogs and web-based catalog collections from colleges and universities in the United States and foreign countries.
Keeps abreast of UNO catalog changes in course descriptions, prerequisites, requirements, courses added or dropped, or changes in course numbers and updates concerning university policy on accepting nontraditional and technical credit.
Keeps abreast of accreditation status of colleges and universities as determined by regional accrediting associations.
Confers with the admission and records personnel at other United States and foreign colleges and universities, businesses, professional accreditation bodies, state agencies and foreign embassies in the admissions and credit of evaluation of domestic and international transfer students.
Notifies applicants who are found to be ineligible for admissions; meets with and counsels students regarding options for future admission.
Communicates orally and in writing with admissions officers and other colleges and universities for clarification of course content, grading systems, course numbering, verification of degrees and/or students’ academic standing, school calendar, etc.
Assists the Assistant Director of Recruitment in visiting other colleges to recruit transfer students, coordinating on and off campus recruitment programs geared toward transfer students, establishing and cultivating on-going liaisons with community college counselors, faculty and students, meeting with exchange students and assisting them with the application registration process.
Assist with special events/activities as needed.
Actively collects and uses data to make decisions and improve both individual and office performance.
Develop the required knowledge base to serve as a resource to all students coming to the Privateer Enrollment Center, and actively seek out this knowledge and take advantage of opportunities to grow professionally.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree,
and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Self-starter willing to do extensive travel and work non-traditional hours.
Must be able to relate to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The applicant must possess strong interpersonal skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Advanced degree.
Experience working in Enrollment Services.
Technical experience working with PeopleSoft computer software, and other software applications. Comfortable with basic marketing, advertising, and recruiting principles.
