Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of OneIT provides highly reliable information technology infrastructure, tools, and services to empower the University to achieve its academic, research, administrative, and service goals.

The Office of Academic Technologies provides technology consultation and support for faculty and staff in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Science (CHESS) and the College of Science (CoS) including software, hardware, labs, web publishing platforms and documentation of technologies for teaching, learning and research.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position provides third-level technology support primarily for the Department of Biological Science and secondarily for the Department of Chemistry including advanced support and troubleshooting for specialized hardware, software, and peripherals. It also provides direct technical support to assist functional users in analyzing their problems, workflows, and processes and offers appropriate recommendations.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing excellent customer service including resolving technology issues in a timely manner, consulting with customers to determine their technology needs, and designing solutions that meet those needs.
  • Responsible for managing software and hardware inventories, installations, processing equipment for surplus, and loaner equipment.
  • Responsible for managing websites for the department, public information monitors, and account access privileges.
  • This position is part of the College of Science (COS) IT team and so is expected to share information and ideas with other team members.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in a natural sciences discipline.
  • Scientific disciplines.
  • Integrating hardware control platforms related to machine control and data collection.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues remotely with campus OneIT and/or specific vendors for specialty applications.
  • Negotiating specifications for customized hardware configurations such as departmental high-performance computing systems.
  • Backup and recovery techniques.
  • Experience with multiple operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux.
  • Experience with legacy operating systems especially those developed by Microsoft.
