Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Work involves developing specific plans for numerical model experiments of coastal processes, reading literature relating to procedures, modifying and adapting procedures to suit the particular project objectives. Carries out model setup and execution independently, records and interprets model outputs. Work requires sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to enable position to work effectively, independent judgment in model development and limited interpretation of results. Work may include the training and supervision of students in performing the specific modeling or data processing tasks and is performed under to general supervision of a principal investigator who reviews work through periodic assessments and meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
As a guide, graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a related science and three years of laboratory experience in the area of research assigned. Work requires hands on experience in the specific area of work assigned.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Masters of Science degree in geosciences, oceanography, or related field
- Experience in the development of models for nearshore processes, specifically XBeach and SWAN
- Experience with Matlab and Python for the interpretation and visualization of model results
