Description
The UAS Standards and Policy Manager will report to the UAS Safety Director to support all Test Site Directors in the development of policy, processes, and procedures in alignment with standards and policy for safety assurance. This position will keep informed of the latest regulatory and policy trends for Unmanned Aircraft Systems to support NPUASTS clients and NPUASTS employees. The UAS Standards and Policy Manager will represent the NPUASTS in industry standards and policy groups through participation in person and virtually. Occasional travel will be required.

Duties & Responsibilities
Aid in NPUASTS client and organizational process, function, and safety assurance by performing the following:
Keep informed and up to date on standards and policy for UAS and business practices
Develop and document safety systems, policy, process, and procedures in alignment with standards and policy for UAS and business practices
Evaluate, improve, and maintain safety systems, policy, process, and procedures in alignment with standards and policy for UAS and business practices
Develop and maintain training on safety systems, policy, process, and procedures and ensure trainees maintain currency
Develop process tools
Write clear, concise, and detailed documents to be understandable by the reader using consistent application styles and established layout plans within documents.
Support organizational and clients calls, as required.
Support local, regional, and state meetings and conferences, as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Participate and support multi-stakeholder standards and industry activities to include,
Understand the latest industry trends and upcoming technology,
Formulate organizational plan to implement these technologies, and
Support flight safety by working with NPUASTS employees and clients to evaluate and improve upon safety systems and related supporting procedures and materials.
Provide information and content to support briefings with customers, legislators, and policy makers.
Minimum Requirements
- Undergraduate degree.
- Experience writing technical documents such as reports, training curriculum, or policy.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Valid Drivers License.
- Successful completion of criminal history records check.
- Willingness and ability to travel, as required.
- Export Control Compliance: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government export control laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications
- Aviation degree or equivalent aviation background/experience.
- Experience with Public Policy and/or regulatory initiatives.
- Experience with safety programs and/or safety management systems.
- Knowledge of FAA Guidance on Unmanned Aircraft through professional work experience or education.
- Experience obtaining waivers, exemptions, or authorization process with the FAA.
- Experience briefing upper level management and senior executives.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification
$65,000 / year, exempt, benefitted, full-time
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
