Department Summary | The UNT Career Center is the centralized career office responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. |
Position Overview |
Due to the impacts of COVID, the job market is rapidly changing, and students are in need of greater job preparation support. Students have identified that COVID has changed their intended career focus and/or the workforce needs for their chosen profession has changed because of the pandemic. These changes for students include the desire to serve others and/or the desire to identify a vocation that allows for more work/life balance. Additionally, the workforce changes include the need to work remotely as well as how positions are hired. Students are in need of better training and support to adjust to a virtual hiring process. Because of this need, UNT is hiring more career advisors to embed in the colleges to enhance support and provide more personal outreach to students. The increase in career advisors allows more students to have individualized attention that helps prepare them for these changes. The Career Center at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Career Coach for the College of Visual Arts and Design with a particular focus on internship placement to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: With a particular focus on CVAD students who have already completed their first year, interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships, and career related issues. *Lead job market research efforts for CVAD in order to provide current and relevant data to CVAD staff, faculty, students, and Career Center colleagues. *Craft systematic internship pathways and external relationships in conjunction with CVAD leadership. *Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics related to internships and employment, assess their effectiveness, and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace. *Provide marketing of career services to the college. *Provide assistance to other units in the Career Center and perform other duties as assigned for optimal operational success of the Career Center. *Update and maintain relevant information on the Career Center website for the college. |
Minimum Qualifications | Master's Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | * Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. * Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. * Experience in networking across departments and programs. * Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. * Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. * Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills. |
Preferred Qualifications | The preferred candidate will possess any of the following additional qualifications: Bachelors in studio art, art education, art history, design, or directly related field and relevant work experience. Graduate degree in studio art, art education, art history, design, or directly related field. Two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience. |
