Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE
The main responsibility of pre-certified technicians in training will be to actively participate in the Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP) in preparation for passing the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician. This program will include didactic learning, simulations, and experiential rotations, and is typically completed in 12 weeks after passing the final exam. Responsibilities and tasks are consistent with state, federal and local regulations, consistent with the functions of a pharmacy technician.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports regularly to training program during assigned hours (typically Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm). Works efficiently and limits distractions and downtime while completing course work. Keeps unapproved absences to a minimum, and ensures all missed course work is made up in a timely manner. Reviews, understands and follows all policies and procedures applicable to employment at URMC and enrollment in PTTP as outlined during orientation to the program.
Completes all assigned computer-based learning modules in a timely manner, organizing study materials and completing quizzes as required. Any questions should be brought to the attention of the program administrator or preceptor in a timely manner.
Completes all assigned simulation tasks, observed and graded by a preceptor of the program. Employee should be prepared for all simulations by reviewing the available material and training/study guides prior to the live simulation.
Attends and completes all assigned experiential rotations as part of the PTTP. This will include ambulatory and acute care experiences; overseen by a preceptor at each site. The employee is expected to be engaged, ask questions, and participate in all activities assigned at the site consistent with Pharmacy Technician duties and responsibilities.
Works in preparation to obtain a passing score on the PTCB Certification Exam upon completion of the program with the intention of filling a Certified Pharmacy Technician position. Completion of PTTP is obtained by successfully passing the final exam. In preparation, the employee utilizes study materials and available resources to review content and increase knowledge in areas where needed.
Additional training during the PTTP or following the program may be assigned preparing the employee to be able to complete other assigned tasks appropriate for pre-certified pharmacy technicians in training, including but not limited to: medication order fulfillment, restocking areas, re-packaging of medications, answering and triaging telephone calls, medication delivery, and use of other technology integrated into the medication use system. Should be completed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required
Be enrolled in the URMC ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP) required
Previous work experience in health care or another fast-paced environment preferred.
Be at least eighteen years of age at the time of application required
Upon completion of the program, be eligible to register for the PTCB certification exam required
Pass the PTCB Certification Exam within 180 days of PTTP completion
