Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Benefits Analyst is responsible for independently performing complex duties with respect to the semi-monthly payrolls for all faculty and staff including the analysis of and the review of Benefits related transactions. Reviews Benefits, both Health and Retirement, in the PeopleSoft HCM system to ensure that are transactions are done in accordance with established University policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all voluntary and mandatory deductions are processed timely and accurately and are compliant with US and SC State laws and regulations as well as university policies and procedures.
- Manage and reconcile all balancing reports each pay period for all assigned deduction accounts in a timely manner. Work with Payroll and Benefits staff to ensure that appropriate action is taken to clear reconciling items.
Assist with analysis of benefit deductions for payroll purposes, benefit refunds, leave without pay benefit billing tasks, and other task pertaining to employee insurance deductions.
Research questions form employees and Benefits staff concerning Payroll/Benefits issues. Analyze data accordingly. Respond with appropriate information and process data correctly.
Assist with the Open Enrollment period for benefit deductions from a payroll perspective and ensure accurate, complete and seamless processing.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 4 years professional accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 4 years professional accounting experience or equivalent education and experience.
- PeopleSoft or other ERP Experience preferred.
- Higher Education experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Employee must have working knowledge of timekeeping and overtime reporting practices, as well as payroll accounting principles and practices.
- Employee must have solid understanding of FLSA regulations.
- Employee should be proficient in mathematical concepts with the ability to analyze and interpret related data.
- Employee must have the ability to apply procedures in accordance with regulatory guidance, and an ability to update systems when new rules and regulations are introduced.
- Employee must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Employee must have the ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively and professionally.
