Looking for one part-time Digital Project Assistant to work at Digital Collections, Hollings Special Collections.
The University of South Carolina Libraries has received a CLIR Hidden Collections grant (https://www.clir.org/hiddencollections/) to digitize the South Carolina Council on Human Relations ( SCCHR ) records (https://digital.library.sc.edu/collections/new-insights-in-the-american-civil-rights-movement-south-carolina-council-on-human-relations-records/), which amass 36 boxes of material. The Digital Collections Department is looking for one part-time staff who can work 20 hours per week for $15.00 per hour to assist with this project starting October 1, 2021 and ending February 28, 2022 (possible extension through to December 2022.
The staff member will report to the CLIR Project Manager and to the Digital Collections Librarian. The duties of the staff member will be scanning, OCR , conducting image review, creating metadata, and loading a high number of items (as files) to the digital repository, CONTENTdm.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Must be a student (degree-seeking) of Library Science, Information Science, or related Humanities field
Must have experience with metadata either through course credit ( SLIS 735) or work experience
Must have experience with image processing
Must have experience with handling rare or delicate items
Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail
Must have the ability to follow directions and work as a team
A successful background check and credit check
Experience with digital repositories preferred
Some heavy lifting may be required
