This is a two-year limited term with the opportunity for renewal based on the success of the program. The successful candidate will be passionate about working with graduate students and building collaborative relationships with program managers, career staff and faculty, particularly those in targeted Option III programs. This position is supervised by the Associate Director of Advanced Degree Employer Integration and works closely with the Advanced Degree team in Texas Career Engagement.

Purpose

The Program Manager for Advanced Degree Career Management leads career planning curriculum, programming, resource development and employer outreach for master's students at the University of Texas at Austin. This position is also responsible for conducting individual and group advising to prepare students and alumni to navigate career decisions, prepare applications and effectively manage their career in the future.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Career Program and Resource Development: Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify unique career needs for target master's programs and deliver career programming and resources specific to those programs with a focus on sustainability and scale. In collaboration with the Advanced Degree Team contribute to the development and teaching of core career workshops (e.g., resume, interviewing, negotiation) and signature programming to ensure master's student target needs are met. Lead outreach, communication, organization and delivery of program requests and work closely with the team to create effective career content and workshops for master's students, focusing on career advancement and career changing. Design communication strategies that maximize content and resource utilization and drive attendance to recruitment and career education events.

  • Individual and Group Career & Professional Development Advising: Provide career advising and coaching specifically for master's students, requiring specialized knowledge of STEM career paths for early to mid-stage professionals. Types of advising can include meeting with students and scholars in person, through video conference, and by phone on topics ranging from application document preparation, career changing, career advancement, exploration and planning, interviewing, negotiation, and decision-making strategies. Design peer-led and group advising structures that are scalable over time.

  • Employer & Alumni Relations: Working closely with the Associate Director for Advanced Degree Employer Integration and the TCE Employer Engagement team, and in collaboration with college and school career centers and Option III programs, identify and build relationships with employers and alumni to enhance recruitment, career education and resource development. Activities include attending campus career fairs, contributing to signature employer engagement programs, outreaching to local and national organizations, and designing effective engagement strategies that integrate employers and alumni into existing and new initiatives.

  • Thought Leadership, Learning & Resources: Assess graduate student needs and identify gaps in service to extend existing or develop new resources and services and scale impact through subscriptions and online resources. Lead graduate career teaching and curriculum professional development for graduate career staff by maximizing existing resources and seeking out new resources, training opportunities, and best practices in career development and curriculum.

  • Assessment and Impact: Design an overall assessment strategy with the Director for Advanced Degree Career & Professional Development for all Option III student career utilization and communicate impact with campus stakeholders, leadership and partners.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in any field, with a demonstrated interest and background in career and professional development, curriculum, teaching, advising, recruitment or development. Three years collaborative program management experience. Strong presentation, teaching and facilitation skills to lead workshops, meetings and seminars. Exceptional outreach and interpersonal skills, with experience working on teams or in highly collaborative environments. Experience advising professionals or graduate students on career-related topics. Passion for working explicitly with advanced degree students and scholars. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to fail and learn collaboratively with the team. Demonstrated teaching and curriculum design experience. Experience working with varied student populations including international and under-represented students.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive in a new and changing work environment. Advanced teaching and pedagogical experience. Five years of experience building and maintaining relationships to develop collaborative programs or resources. Experience working in recruiting or learning and development in technology, engineering or data science fields. Contributions to the field of advanced degree career and professional development. Knowledge of STEM advanced degree career paths

Salary Range

$68,000 depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
