PurposeThe Wardrobe Supervisor is a vital part of the academic production team at the Department of Theatre and Dance. The position is responsible for ensuring the costume aspects of performances run smoothly for each departmental production. The Wardrobe Supervisor works closely with students, faculty, staff and professionals, and models the department's standards of communication, involvement, and consent in the production process. In this role, the Wardrobe Supervisor trains, mentors and collaborates with various stakeholders in a hands-on learning environment. This position reports to the Costume Production Director.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position which begins September 23, 2024, and concludes November 24, 2024.
Responsibilities- Project Management Support: Reviews costumes with the Designer, Design Assistant, and Project Manager to comprehend the entire show. Works with Project Manager in creating and updating wardrobe paperwork, and identifying backstage needs for supplies, equipment, and materials for each production. Works with the Wig, Hair and Makeup Team to ensure the needs of the production are maintained. Communicates and coordinates with Stage Management and Project Manager on any show-related needs including but not limited to entrance and exit plots, costume presets and run of show needs. Coordinates with department faculty on wardrobe crew assignments and training schedules. Attends select production run-throughs and technical/dress rehearsals.
- Supervision: Supervises and coordinates tech and performance coverage with the Running Crew Chief, with approval of the Costume Production Director. Supervises the Wardrobe Team on final laundry, pulling dry-cleaning, and striking costumes of each production.
- Facility Support: Maintains the dressing room and wardrobe spaces.
- Working knowledge of the theatre process, including but not limited to theatrical production practices, costume care, and costume repair.
- Excellent communication skills - written, oral, visual.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet deadlines.
- Ability to foster a courteous and supportive work environment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent transferable skills from other training with 2-3 years professional experience in a similar position.
- Intimacy training.
$19 per hour
Working Conditions- Prolonged screen time
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- May have to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise
- Occasionally reaches overhead
- Frequently will need to traverse stairs or use freight elevators
- Constantly handles a variety of fabric and costumes in a variety of textures and finishes
- Occasionally handles or lifts fabric and costumes weighing up to 50 pounds
- Frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff in a noisy theater environment
- Works closely with performers in various states of dress, including positioning themselves around the body of the actor
The work times vary. Evenings and weekends are required. The Wardrobe Supervisor is expected to work 40 hours a week, with the possibility of overtime during technical and dress rehearsals.
